Getting to Know Microsoft Windows

If you plan to work on computers for a living you’ll have to get to know Microsoft Windows. Sure, there are a lot of different functions to the program and it can be intimidating when you’re starting out. Still, everyone had to start at the beginning so why should you be any different? There are a few things you can do to make using Word an easy experience.

1.) Save first and often- Believe it or not, some people will write entire articles or assignments and then just can’t locate the file on their computer. The quickest remedy is to save the file to your desktop for easy access. Go to the home tab and save the file to your desktop so you can easily open it the next time you sign on. Also, save your file often while you work on it. There are few things more frustrating than doing a lot of work and then having your computer lose power or some other problem and discovering your last hours worth of typing is forever lost. Save frequently and you will always be thankful you did.

2.) Use the format painter to quickly copy a specific format- Another frustrating experience in Word is when you have multiple types of texts going on in the same document. You can waste a lot of time going through the fonts and print size to try and match different kinds of text. The easiest remedy is to locate the paintbrush in the upper left hand corner of your screen. Select some text and click on the brush. When you drag it over the other text, you’ll notice it appears just as that original text does.
