Computers have revolutionized the way we play fantasy sports. Prior to computers, a commissioner in a fantasy baseball league would have to find a way to tally the box scores for each player. These days, everything is entered as it happens and fantasy players can watch the evening results live as they happen. Yahoo offers it’s Stat-tracker program for free, previously charging players ten dollars for the accessory. So here’s how to get starting with America’s number one online fantasy game.
1.) Sign up at yahoo.com- If you don’t already have an accoun t with the online giant, your first step should be to register at the site. You will then be given a Yahoo e-mail account. For many users, they never receive more than the welcome e-mail in this account.
2.) Register to play yahoo fantasy- You will be given a few options when you sign up. If this is your first time playing, make sure to register for a casual league over the competitive alternative. This will give you a chance to familiarize yourself with the game and practice against some less seasoned players.
3.) Have a good draft- Yahoo ranks the players for you so you don’t have to do very much work. The key is not to get too creative when you’re drafting. Don’t drop down too far from where Yahoo values a player. It’s also a good idea to hit a couple crucial areas early on in the draft. For instance, a good third baseman can be relatively hard to find so you don’t want to go longer than a handful of rounds before picking one. Shortstop is another area in short supply so grab a premier shortstop and don’t look back.
Throughout the year, you can make additions based on areas of need or to react to injuries on your team. Don’t get carried away and bail on your star players too early. Players will sometimes start the season in a slump but there’s no reason to bail on your first 5 or 6 picks until the prove themselves not worthy of playing.
